Head instructor of Asagi Karate club both in Greasby and Liverpool

8th Dan in Goju-Ryu and been teaching karate for the past 40 years!

Sensei Phil McClements
5th Dan
Training since he was 5 years old, Phil has taken part in over 30 international events and competed for over 20 years, he was also chosen to represent England for the world championships
​
He has since been teaching Goju-Ryu for the past 25 years

Sensei Steve Gould
5th Dan
Steve trained under Sensei Paul from the age of 7 and has competed at a regional and national level
​
Steve now passes on his own knowledge and experience in Asagi Greasby

Sensei Mike Gould
3rd Dan
Following in his Brothers footsteps Mike stared karate in 2001, after achieving his black belt in 2009 Mike also went on to compete in both regional and national competitions
Mike now continues to teach the tradition of Goju-Ryu

Sensei Debbie Crane
4th Dan
Debbie has been practicing Goju-Ryu karate for the past 20 years, her interest was peaked when she used to bring her 4 sons to the dojo
​
Since then Debbie has taken part in many international training events, including a trip to Okinawa

Sensei Jen Perestrelo
2nd Dan
Jen took up Goju-Ryu back in 2016 and started teaching 3 years later, Jen is now working towards her 3rd Dan
​
Jen works hard in and out the dojo in Greasby, doing a lot behind the scenes

Sensei Phil Cooke
6th Dan
Phil first started Karate back in 1983, training under Sensei Paul when he opened Asagi Greasby a year later
​
Phil has trained and teach in the dojo ever since!

Sensei Darren Goorwappa
3rd Dan
Inspired by watching his two sons train under Sensei Paul, Darren started his Goju-Ryu journey at 40 years old, going on to achieve his 3rd Dan
Darren now passes on his experience to the younger students
​

Sensei Dylan Goorwappa
2nd Dan
Starting at the age of 5, working through the badges and into the coloured belts, Dylan became a junior clack belt at 11, later to achieve his adult black belt at 18
​
Using his skills and interest in martial arts, Dylan took up Brazilian Ju-jitsu, achieving his blue belt and passing on further knowledge to our students

Sensei Mia Valente-Billington
2nd Dan
Starting Karate at 6 years, Mia has been training, teaching and competing for the past 16 years
Mia also held the national title for 3 consecutive years and aims to continue her development in the years to come

Sensei Jesse O'Rourke
2nd Dan (Junior)
Jesse has been with Asagi for over 9 years, working his way from white belt to his current junior 2nd dan

In that time Jesse has had opportunity to both compete at national level and also teach here in the dojo

Sensei Daniel Harrington
1st Dan (Junior)
Daniel started training at 5 years old and had now been instructing here in Greasby for the last 2 years
​
Learning from more experienced instructors from around the country including Sensei Paul

Sensei Josh Goowrappa
2nd Dan
From the age of 5 Josh started Goju-Ryu, by the tine he was 11 he achieved his junior black belt going on to receive his adult black belt at 18
​
He has also had the chance to compete at both regional and national level, in the past 4 years he used his background in martial arts to learn new skills, achieving his blue belt in Brazilian Ju-jitsu

Sensei Andy Lewis
4th Dan
Andy began Goju-Ryu from the age of 12, with over 40 years of experience he has trained globally and studied various styles of martial arts also holding a black belt in Judo

Andy mainly takes the Liverpool classes and is deeply passionate for providing martial arts opportunities for all ages

Sensei Joe Greenwood
2nd Dan
Training with Asagi karate club for 17 years Joe began his journey at 7 years old
​
Working towards his 3rd Dan, Joe continues to train and instruct other students in the Liverpool dojo

Sensei Andy Harrington
1st Dan (Junior)
Andy started his Goju_Ryu journey at 5 years old and his been training for the past 11 years, 2 of which have including instructing the younger students

Andy has competed in local competitions, enhancing his knowledge and skill set, which he now passes on on to other students

Sensei Max Cross
2nd Dan (Junior)
Max began Karate under Sensei Paul when he was 7 years old, managing to achieve his 2nd Dan junior black belt

Working towards his 3rd Dan and adult black belt Max helps bring on our younger students in the dojo
